Solid Boxes, Tired Color

Cabinet refinishing in Rocky River often happens in condos, apartments and senior-living buildings, where a kitchen has to turn over fast between residents.

The cabinets in these kitchens are usually well built. The problem is the color: a gray or wood tone that made sense twenty years ago and now makes a small kitchen feel darker. Replacing them means new boxes, new counters and weeks without a kitchen. Refinishing keeps the boxes and changes the look in days.

What property managers and owners tell us they want:

  • a bright, current kitchen without a remodel
  • a finish that holds up to years of daily use
  • a schedule that fits between residents

How We Refinish Cabinets in Occupied Buildings

Step 1: Protect the unit and coordinate trades

Turnovers often have flooring, counters and backsplash happening at the same time. We tape the floor line, cover anything that stays, and plan our spray days around the other trades.

Step 2: Remove, clean and prime

Doors and drawer fronts come off and are labeled. Every surface is degreased and prepped, then primed with a bonding primer so the finish grips factory coatings.

Step 3: Spray doors on racks

Doors hang on drying racks and drawer fronts sit on blocks, so both sides cure without touching anything. Two coats of urethane enamel go on with a sprayer for a smooth, factory-like surface.

Step 4: Reinstall and adjust

Everything goes back on its labeled opening, hinges are adjusted so doors close true, and the unit is cleaned and handed back.

Doors and walls in the same turnover

Cabinet refinishing in Rocky River residences is often one part of a whole-unit turnover. At the lakefront senior community shown here, the same visit converted the stained interior doors to white, primed first with Sherwin-Williams ProBlock so the old stain couldn’t bleed through. Walls went to soft neutrals that read calm in every room: Accessible Beige (SW 7036) and Worldly Gray (SW 7043).

The community has had us back for unit after unit, which is why every kitchen follows the same sequence and the same products. Residents moving in get the same quality whichever unit they choose.

Questions we hear

Can you work while other trades are in the unit? Yes. We coordinate spray days with flooring and counter crews.

Will it look painted? Sprayed enamel over a bonding primer looks close to a factory finish, with no brush marks.

Can you work with a property manager? Yes. Most of our Rocky River cabinet work is scheduled with a manager around move-outs and move-ins.

Do you paint the interior doors too? Yes. Stained doors can be primed and converted to white in the same visit.
